Getting a college education is an expensive undertaking, especially in a difficult economy. Many students and their parents simply cannot afford to pay the tuition fees out of pocket. For many, without a scholarship of some kind, their dream of a college education will remain just that: a dream
Wyoming University is one of the many great journalism schools in the Country and offers extremely generous scholarships as well. If you are looking for a career in journalism, or something similar, perhaps this would be the school for you.
How Do Their Scholarships Work?
If you have already settled on your major being in the communication or journalism field, then it is worth your time to apply for this scholarship program. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required in order for your application to be considered, so keeping your grades up in High school is worth the effort.
The process is not complicated, and filling out one application, available online, enables the prospective student to be considered for all related department scholarships. Applications can be printed out and mailed in, or can be emailed to the appropriate office at the University. Visit the scholarship page for more information about the submission process.
There are many factors that determine who is awarded the scholarships. Here are just a few of the things that are considered by the scholarship board.
- Need of the Student
- Extracurricular and/or Internship Activities
- Quality of the Essay Submitted.
- Specific Scholarship Specifications
It is important to fill out the applications fully and do a thorough job on the essay section of the application in order to make the best impression possible. Be sure to pay extra attention to the essay section of the application. You are required to write, in not more than 250 words, the information regarding your goals, dreams, financial needs, experience, etc. This requires that you right clearly and concisely to include all the pertinent information. Going over the 250 words is not viewed favorably. Remember, they are looking for students with the aptitude for telling a story without rambling. Just stick to the facts.
How Will I Know if I Am Chosen for a Scholarship?
Scholarships must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. (Mountain Time Zone) on February 10th of each year. Again, applications may be submitted in person, by mail, or email.
If you are chosen to be a recipient of one of the journalism scholarships you will be notified prior to the department reception in April. Recipients are required to attend the reception to receive their scholarship.
